Liat Dror Nir Ben Gal Dance Company
The Adama Dance School
The Adama School was opened in light of the interest in the Adama Dance Company, headed by choreographers Liat Dror and Nir Ben Gal.
The school teaches Adama's language of movement, on all its components. Our work method integrates supporting healing movement together with the accuracy and physical skill of professional dance.
The school is focused on learning dance, encompassing a cyclical worldview.
Each student meets the chance to improve and enhance his abilities, both physical and emotional. The different classes include building strength, agility, developing coordination and learning how to work within a given space. The students learn how to process the materials and turn them into a dance, which each one expresses in his own personal way, out of his understanding of space.
Emphasis is given to building, in order to enable each student to fulfill his significant desires in reality.
In addition to learning, there is the option of practicing in the school's studio, this in order to enable each student to find his own independent path.
1st Year
In the first year, the students acquire the basic tools for leaning dance.
Studies include:
Balance and getting to know our body's physical abilities, flexibility, strength, cardiovascular stamina, the ability to connect different organs to our body's movements.
The meaning of moving from practice to the body's ability to move freely in dance.
In addition, great emphasis is placed on self-building capabilities, and each student learns how to compose his own work and present it before an audience.
At the same time, the studies connect the student with his wider environment, related with execution. The connection with the environment is performed in two ways. The first is with our natural environment, including learning the cycles of nature. The second is with our ability to see dance within the whole system of set, costumes, production, marketing and all other associated matters.
Learning about the body's power, as well as and learning how to connect with the outside, are done through many diverse classes, enabling each student to deal with his abilities from different, sometimes less known, directions.
2nd Year
In the 2nd year, studies expand in new directions.
Basic practice enables our body to improve itself in terms of flexibility, strength, coordination and rhythm. At the same time, our ability to move within different movement sequences, in a more skilled and accurate manner, teaches us commitment and attention to the studied material, the space and our partners in movement.
In this year we add the invisible movement to the process, the internal movement which empowers our external movement. The internal movement is learnt in different classes, including:
Contemplation: meditation, relaxation, natural healing. This learning acquaints us with the way from the external to the internal, to complete the cycle that is within each and every one of us, and in everything around us.
The connection between the art and dance, and the art of internal vision, is performed through practical work, which contains the elements of the cycle, together with the ability to provide ground to any action, learning the stage and production, together with communal work.
The essence of the place is in understanding that each person must know at the way from the internal to the external, and at the same time, from the external to the internal. Each student is given an opportunity to learn his abilities and to improve himself on the physical level, in his ability to perform any dance material on a high level of performance, and at the same time get to know the emotional and spiritual connection with the process. In order for these connections to be simple and more stable, each student must experience a process which contains both service and teaching, the ability in each and every one of us to give to the other.
The balance between our ability to empower ourselves, to dare, dream, improve, create, enhance our accuracy and expand our body's range of abilities, and contemplation, understanding and accepting processes, understanding change, learning to know our personal pace and accepting the general pace, our ability to provide service, enable us to get acquainted with the responsibility and commitment existing in the space and in the ground, which enabled this moment to be here, and which will enable the next moment to continue existing in full.
The unique challenge in the Adama School is learning the whole cycle. We believe that even if in the following years, each of the students will expand a certain part within the cycle, still knowing and understanding the cyclical system will empower and give depth to his specific choice.
